Popular in Spain and its former colonies in Latin America and the Philippines, Polvoron is a type of shortbread. As its name suggests from the Spanish word polvo (powder), it is a fluffy, crumbly made of flour, milk, sugar, fat and nuts.

While the standard Filipino version uses full cream powdered milk, toasted flour, sugar and butter or margarine, other ingredients such as ube (purple yam), raspberry, pinipig (crispy rice), cashew, and cookies are also commonly used as variants of flavour.

Using molds, the mixture is shaped into small portions and then individually wrapped in colorful cellophane or Japanese paper to keep fresh.
